While I'm still on my "auction" kick - did you know the United States Post Office auctions off unclaimed, damaged, and claim-paid merchandise?

I always thought they burned all the mail that couldn't be delivered or returned to the original sender, but I guess they open the boxes to see if there is anything valuable in there first. I wonder if the people opening the boxes get to wear outfits with pockets? Wink

Wasn't there a book about a guy that worked in the dead-letter office that opened mail he wasn't supposed to and over time uncovered a vast consiracy of some sort?
