The big thing for the sim was getting the return calculation correct. I am hoping that we've done this with the latest update. It's not quite completed (details are elsewhere) but I wanted to start a fresh topic to solicit ideas / suggestions and help prioritize some of the items that have been in the planning stages waiting until the big fix was done. In no apparent order:

Options Trading - 'nuff said.
Combine holdings on sales - If you have 3 open positions on the same stock, be able to sell all of them at once
View historical monthly returns - So you can go back to the beginning of the year and compare month-to-month return numbers
e$ Bank - be able to deposit e$ in a bank and earn interest
Multiple Portfolios - be able to trade in more than one account under the same username. For example this would allow you to try out different strategies. Only one account would be eligible for the monthly contest, and you would designate that prior to the end of the previous month. You could also use this to create a "game" portfolio, like the April monthly contest going on now, without using an external site.
Pay to Peek - Right now the amount required to "sneak peek" a portfolio is hard-coded. I think letting each person set a peek fee for each of their (potentially multiple) portfolios would be cool. Plus, if we use multiple portfolios to track games, you want those to be free. The million dollar contest could be done the same way.
IRS Simulator - I don't expect this one to be popular. Very Happy Have a quarterly process that deducts taxes from your account, simulating quarterly estimated taxes. Could include short term / long term / extra long term holdings awareness.

So that's a few things I have scribbled on various slips of paper and post its. Please weigh in with any yays / nays or other suggestions. Anything, and I mean anything is fair game for consideration. Cool Even if you just pick one or two if the items that I've listed as the "most important" that would help prioritize development time. Thanks.

I think we all know how I feel about options, I think that should be the next thing to be worked on... after that, I would say multiple portfolios.

I would actually like to see those two items you mentioned (options and multi-ports) done in tandem. That way you can set up an account for trading options that is separate from your main stock account.

Can we have dividends too then?

Good point, yes, if we're going to take taxes out, we should put dividends in. Smile I wonder if there's a feed somewhere that we can subscribe to to get dividend announcements.

In all seriousness, I don't expect that suggestion to get much interest or support. From anybody. Wink But it is (or at least probably should be) a consideration for anyone trading stocks.

Especially now that active traders can compound their gains throughout the month. That's all well and good for the monthly contest, but trading that way in real life has tax implications.

But real life doesn't offer a guaranteed 4% monthly return on vacant land either. Laughing

Yeah, it would really complicate things. We would have to set up some sort of price index for demand on products in the store and property (including asimo Shocked Confused )

C'mon, I left one of the biggest requests out just to give someone something to talk about... can anybody figure out which feature was not listed in my post? And no, this doesn't count as a "Challenge", there's no e$ reward for figuring this out. Laughing

And the answer was "Limit orders". <ding ding ding>

However, Ben tells me that he wants to run for a few months with the latest set of changes only instead of piling more new code on top of new code. So you can still post your ideas / opinions on new features in this topic, but they won't be acted upon for at a minimum of several months, and perhaps longer.

Just so you know. Cool

You never gave me a chance to answer. I only saw this thread now.

If you don't mind I would like to suggest Limit Orders. Wink

As a sort of tie-in to the "pay to peak" I would also like a "donate to user" as a part of the posts. So if someone makes a great post or topic people can show their appreciation with a little gift.

There should be a "donate" link under each username on the viewtopic page (this page). Is that what you were looking for? When you donate the e$ you can add a little note that says why you're doing it if you like.

If you had something different in mind, please post a description. It will probably still be put into the "pending projects" bucket, but you never know. Wink

Actually that sounds about right, it's just a little hidden.

I'm not sure, perhaps a button at the lower right of all of the posts that says "donate" or something similar. Pretty low priority I imagine as the donate button is already there.

I think an automatic Set Buy and Set Sell would be cool. Example would be if I want to sell a stock when it hits a certain number, i set that number and it will automatically sell it for me when it gets to that number.
