How often do you check to see what your stocks are doing?

My husband said the guys where he used to work sat with a newspaper everyday and some rejoiced and some cried. He felt like it was too much stress for him and it kind of turned him off to investing.

Personally, I never check... but I know that my husband usually checks his once a week or so. But he sometimes make some short-term buys. Many people buy stocks for the "long-term" and will only check them every few months. I guess it is whatever you feel comfortable with!

Never. The stocks we have are for the long term and if I watched everyday, I would just get sick on the roller coaster ride!

We did a stock project for business and didn't bother checking every day, and one of our stocks decreased by 50% of the value in 2 weeks...So after that we started checking ever day for patterns, although if i wasn't getting graded on it, i probably wouldn't invest because it seems a hassle.

Hehe, I am pretty compulsive (and I just like looking at my money) so I check a few times a week. Cool I check my 401K a couple of times a week. Also, I have individual mutual funds separate from my 401K and I have daily updates of those emailed to me from Morningstar.

You may want to check into your 401k and

1) Figure out how much you are saving in taxes by contributing to it.
2) Figure out how much you will be paying in taxes when you start to withdrawl the money, IE taxes at retirement.
3) Figure out the Tax bite when you die and it transfers to your spouse.

You will find out that you and everyone else will be paying in taxes at retirement about 12 times the amount you saved durring your working years.

Worried about its value? Everyone should be worried about the loss of Net Spendable Income in regards to at retirement.

Just ask your parents or grandparents.

Best of luck.

I don't check. I'm invested for the long terms and I only look at my statement/value about 4 times a year. Helps keep me from worrying and making knee-jerk reactions.

How often depends your investing style but it's always a good idea to be informed and keep track of your investments. Flunctuations in the markets compared to those of your holdings can be good indicators among many others of your portfolio's risks and diversifications.
