I need to know: What makes one a compulsive spender? If you were to be spending, say, $100 a week and you didn't know where you were spending it, would you be concerned? Am I just retarded?

My wife seems to spend $250 a week and cannot show me where it went until I look at our credit card statement and see OH The GAP, Toys R'US, Tiqi Taco, Tawnies palce, Nails etc.....

Oh but I needed it. Uh-HUH yeah right.

It could be worse, she could be only spending $150 a week and when you check the credit card statement the only charge is to The Crazy Horse Saloon! Laughing Tawnies Palace? What's that? Very Happy

i know you guys are going to think i am full of sh*t but i only spend 50.00 tops per week. Most of that is buying a 5.00 lunch meal a day, i don't smoke or use any human addiction products so that is a saver v's some people.
I think when it comes to spending weekly it matters if the person in question works daily, is a stay at home mom and is constantly looking over the kids( as my wife is) or just is a stay at home wife that don't need to work cause hubby makes enough.
In my case, the wife is always spending for the kids for some reason or other and always with them. That pretty much renders me by myself 95% of the time thus i have no baggage.
Kids can kill the weekly budget, and i havent figured out on the credit card statment what she buys at motel 6????hmmmm! somthing fishy. wierd. oh-well lifes fun anyways. Laughing

I have no problem believing you spend $50 a week. Smile I probably spend less, at least as far as discretionary cash. I can spend that much in one fill-up of gas, so I don't count that. Rolling Eyes Our biggest "unplanned" expense is eating out. We've discovered that it only costs $12 to feed a family of four at Ci Ci's Pizza because kids 3 and under eat free. Or we go to a more expensive restaurant (like Olive Garden as an example) but order something that has leftovers so we get two meals for the price of one. If we don't eat out for a week our expenses are fairly minimal.

my estimate included fuel. I got a 1987 ford t-bird turbo coupe with the 4 cylinder and the turbo to make sure i gets all the unburned gas. Also helps that i work 5 miles away from home and a tank of 20 gallons will last better than a month or so. I guess every person has differant defaults of their style and for me when gas went on the frenzy i chose to park the f-150 and drive the bird.
logical to change your habits when the world changes as i did and use the f-150 for the yard work or the sunday drive to get mulch etc. etc.. although i am using a very rare car as an everyday driver, not happy..

curious, do you carry cash around or charge most of your purchases?

Cash is my downfall. If I have a buck in my pocket I'll generally find a way to spend it without thinking twice about it. Charging something and signing on the dotted line, however keeps me from pretty much ever buying anything...
