The portfolio update process only runs once an hour. Otherwise it would put too much strain on the server. So if you look just before and just after than run, you might see a big jump depending on how much your stock has moved in the last sixty minutes.

I'm beginning to think the only way to win is to put all your money in one stock and the one with he greatest gain wins. If you flip stocks a lot like I do its impossible.

I think you missed my point just by a little bit. I ws just commenting on how the einvesting is setup of your gains and loses. Not the actual market. Sorry if I didn't explain. Very Happy

For now, yes, this appears to be true. Changes are planned for later this year that will, as far as I can tell, remove those penalties that active traders experience here.

Well, I think it is pretty close to reality. The brokers always make more money because they suffer no risk. It would probably be more realistic if the price per trade was at $7 which seems to be the avg lo ball discount brokerage fee for the normal online investor. Yes it is possible to open a large trading account on margin for daytraders where trades are much much lower priced based on volume of trades like 100 or more trades a week (and this would be a good idea for say daytrader.einvesting.com). As is, this is a good eyeopener for the paper trader who thimks he is making money but, not realizing broker fees which are very high for low stock price low volume traders. I think that a portfolio should only be considered for competition if the person is holding at least five stocks. It doesn't prove anything really to get lucky and pick one to ride and win. Diversity is the key to successfull trading and tweaking your portfolio as needed but not all the time, swapping positions changeing holdings etc., as it is expensive and seriously cuts into a traders gains.

Blah, its only one day. And I know I haven't gotten around to getting 10 posts in yet, nor have most others I suspect.

In Statistics, we call this a "small sample error". Wink
