| He sold to lock in his percentage? Looks like others just might catch up to him now. |

It's going to be close. A 24% gain in a week and a half is awesome. There are a few days left, but the stock I hold would have to continue to increase and not drop before the end of the month in order to catch up.
I think it's a good gamble for him (selling to lock in his return). I think I would have done the same thing in his shoes. |

Wow, MTD (month to date) up over 20% as of the last update this morning.
I should have bought this stock in my real portfolio, I should have bought this stock in my real portfolio, I should have bought this stock in my real portfolio, I should have bought this stock in my real portfolio... |

You've been ahead at various times this month. I suspect you have lower $$ stocks, as your portfolio % is a bit more volatile than mine. My stock (I currently have a single holding in my portfolio, the same one I picked for the long term "million e$ contest" if you want to know what it is ) has done well this month.
I wonder how many positions scootklein (the current active leader) had? I'm guessing not many, would not be surprised if it were just one like me.
I think that the short-term aspect of this game rewards people that get lucky with one or two stocks. I would take a return like any of the folks in the 3-5% range in a heartbeat if that return could be sustained from month-to-month. Heck, I would take a 1-2% return every month and be happy. Getting 20% or more in one month is "sexy". Longer term results are much harder to do. |

| I would guess that he only had one. Otherwise your percent return gets diluted. |

I put out a warning to Scootklein in the Wolfvesting forum that he better get back in if he wishes to win. I think he was only in two or three stocks and that that is how he has done so well. My roommate has 10 or so stocks and this is why his one stock that has a 40% return hasn't put him at the top. Staying in a single stock is a big gamble for the month, but it has the best chances of taking you over the top of the rest.
Currently, I'm on the upswing myself. |

I only have one. My current return (shown on this page) is 23.95%, only a fraction behind, but according to the quotes the stock is falling back some today after an initial surge, so that number will go down the next time the update script runs.
It's like watching a golf tournament. The current leader is in the clubhouse with a two-stroke lead, the challengers are still on the course with a chance to improve their scores, but there's only a few holes left. |

| I had five until yesterday. I returned 88.10% on one. The three I currently have have a return of 38.15% and 22.19% and 1.4%. It says ont the bottom of my page that I am up 30%+ I really don't understand how it is figured. I have 30000 e$ invested....returning 42000+ for a gain of around 12000 on 30000 that to me is about 46% but I have no clue |

Well, I'm in first place on the active list, at least for a few minutes. Don't think I'll be selling out, though, as Iceemaan is hard on my heels. Gotta let this horse run its race. |

Worse idea ever strictly because his return % will be taken from a much bigger number if he buys back in. At this point he only has one option and that is to keep his money out. If he puts the money back in he has to get atleast a 25% return on the stock or else he will just be hurting himslef. |

This was discussed in another thread. The number that the % is based off of is the total amount invested during the month. So when you sell a stock and reinvest the money you have to add that money on to your portfolio. |

In just the few days of the month thus far I have bought and sold 11 different stocks. And I still have a 20.44% return average thus far. Not bad. The two I presently have in the portfolio are returning 42.36% and 14.31% I have a cost of 28,870 a value of 40,488 for a net of 11,618 and a return net of 40.24% NOT BAD FOR MY FIRST MONTH. If I would have known it worked this way I would have held on tighter to the stocks I bought when I started on the 4th. Oh well next month.
Is that what the majority of people do? I was trying to make the biggest net profit I could. I thought that would directly relate to the percentage but it really doesn't. Oh well I will learn this game and the market at the same time. |
