| We have been doing pretty well with the new signups. For a while yahoo was bringing the site in one the first page. I forget what keyword I used to find this place though. |

I thought we got bumped off the top results, wasn't that the whole point of the "its been quiet" thread? http://www.einvesting.com/viewtopic.php?t=1855
I guess they update their searches in the middle of the month; does anyone (or Ben, he counts too) know how we'll be ranking when they switch? |

| When I type in Investing Forums it is now the first result on the 3rd page. That is for yahoo. For google I dont get it till the 6th page. For msn I didnt get us in the first 10 pages. It seems like investingpub.com is the main competition. |

2001. It was the result of a life-time dream, starting when I was about 8, I guess. Read more...

You can either pay for paid... erm, excuse me, "sponsored" results, or you get a site with tons of back-links or whatever google decides is important today. Anyone that tells you that they can "guarantee" placement for certain keywords (without paying for a sponsored link) is talking out of their rear-end. Google changes their ranking process on a periodic basis... there are certain things that they look for, certain things they penalize for. It's all a big mystery.
The one thing that has remained relatively consistent is that links from other sites to yours are considered a good thing, as long as the other site is a content site and not just a link farm.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a full-time endeavor. It would be nice if Google were to publish exactly what is required, but if they did that, everyone would just figure out a way to "cheat" the system. So they don't tell anyone anything. |

Business plan? I don't really have one. Except offer the best Investing Simulator and forum on the web, heh.
SEO is VERY tricky. I'm hoping Yahoo will put us back up at the top on the 15th again, but you never know. When we dropped though we were much higher still then we were before. The keywords ranked well were general things like "walmart stock" (I think were still in the top 5 for that). We've never done too well with Investing Forum...too many webmasters know too much about SEO. One thing is if your starting a new topic try to make the subject as informative and pertaining to the post as possible. The Subject becomes the page title on those pages.
We haven't even been here for even a year yet. The longer your around the more pages get indexed and the more you'll show up. |

Business plan? I'm thinking an IPO which rockets to $450 or so a share, giving us a market cap of over $120 billion . At that point, I would cash out and short the stock... wait, I'm not talking about Google...
Thanks for telling me about the subject heading thing, I'll try to make those better from now on. |

I'm in for the long run. It oughta be interesting to see who those lucky folks are, because I see great promise for the site's future at it's current rate of growth. |

| A bunch of people in the top posters leaderboard apparently don't visit the site anymore, so I still think there is an opportunity for someone to snag a spot, even if you only have 100 or 200 posts right now. |

| Right now the person in 5th is Dave Rathbun with 334 posts. 1,000 posts in a long way to go for anyone so I think everyone has a shot to get there. The only person who is probally a lock is Grimreaper who has over 900 posts. Should be interesting to see who gets to a 1,000 posts. |

I didn't even realize I was in the top 5. I joined a while ago, but took a few months off last fall where I didn't visit this (or any other) board for a while. Too bad I didn't know this was coming up. |

Well you are almost halfway there, and I'm just over 600 now. Its pretty interesting how the post numbers change so quickly when you have 20+ a day for a few days.
Currently:
Grim is at 960.
Frusnak has 672.
I have 606 (soon to be 607).
Geb9696 has 524.
Dave is at 476. |

| So there is still romm for people to sneak into the top 5. Seems like only Grimreapers spot is safe. |
