I spent some time today updating my model for the start of the next month, and although I haven't completely sorted through the results I have highlighted the top five mega-caps.

As always, the results are interesting. I have to say that I really like all of the top five, although I have a feeling there is a certain person around here who will vehemently disagree - really, I had no involvement in picking the stocks, I just read right down the list!

For those of you feeling speculative, here is the list of the Top 5 Micro and Small-Caps for the month.

#1 certainly looks like an interesting stock, and its right up Grim's alley too! Again, I have no "hands-on" involvement in picking these stocks, it is simply the results given by a quantitative formula that is applied to the results from a screen. Still, the irony of #1 on this list and #1, 2 and 3 from the other list is amusing to say the least.

The latest update on stocks I like:
W&T Offshore (WTI)

I found a couple additional data points today that I believe support a continued rise in natural gas prices - namely, to the point where I see little chance of natural gas slipping under $7 anytime soon. Thinking back to the cash flow projections, W&T is very profitable at the $7 point. WTI is up about 14% since the update I gave above, and I see it going higher.

So, I'm slacking off on my important work tonight to do the occasional bit of research into a couple favorite holdings... I still see no reason why Valero (VLO) doesn't keep running up through $75-80. Should it get there, I have another number in mind but I don't want to be premature and inspire the wrath of the Reaper.

This week I'm looking for a breakout in Freeport (FCX) through $72, as well as a bounce in Aspreva Pharmaceuticals (ASPV).

How about we see if we can fill that gap in Imperial Sugar (IPSU) and add another dollar or so onto the price, and also see if W&T Offshore (WTI) keeps riding the natural gas momentum up.

And in other news... alert the shorts and anyone who wants to tag me as "Jinxie", Valero (VLO) is never having another down day again. Laughing Razz

Alright, FCX bumped up a bit but nothing inspiring yet. IPSU turned in a beautiful performance today, and ASPV is now on the to-bounce list - bought more of that. No real action from WTI either, it was a bit of a slow day overall.
And Grim, why no celebrating over VLO today? I completely telegraphed what was going to happen for you... Laughing Wink

I mean, someone has to be right about that stock, so I figured I would drop you a hint so you have a clue (and a chance).
And as for selling on eI... um hm. Because we've rehashed this a couple times, and when I sell something here to lock up the monthly prize is definitely the be-all-end-all of anything. Honestly, I think you just bring that up because you don't find it comfortable to be caught dead-wrong on another energy stock for over 40%. But then, Geb can back me up on VLO being a good call that brough in some cash... and I think anyone else who has read our, uh, "discussions" about VLO will know who has been right and who has been wrong. Need I put a chart here so you can understand?

Wink BTW, I don't unnerstand why ya didn go wit PCU at $78 when I told ya Manny was bringin in the new guy and makin him make a false trade ta $88? Ahhhh...who knows, maybe FCX will get a buyout proposition...it's grossly overvalued enuff to. Very Happy Oh yeah....one mo thang....I noticed dat whilst you was tawkin to me ole Bill Gates sittin right next to ya wassa sneakin a peak at yer cards. Wink He was also cheatin ova da weekend and I noticed him lookin everytime you tried ta sneek a peek down Liz Clayman's blouse! Shocked Is dat all you ole farts do in yer spare time...play cards?!!
