I like sicilian's idea and here are some thoughts as I struggle to find interesting things to post about for this month.
Using your leader board as a reference the following things jump out at me. On your leader board you have 1886 registered members. Of those only 586 have made any posts. Being generous as I included the several pages of individuals who have only made one post this amounts to activity from only 4.5% of your registered members.
You have had numerous comments about how to get people to post and lots of conversations about the "earning of e$". Of the 586 people who have made posts (and I did not crunch numbers on this) I would suggest that a very small percentage of the members account for a very large percentage of the postings). A very small percentage of the posters likely have any idea what they are talking about ( for me would you be prepared to speak in fromt of 100 people on the topic and feel relatively confident about what you are talking about).
I think if you create more of a begginers environment that will educate people on investing you may see some results.
Investing is such a huge subject and everyone has an opinion on specific stocks and which way the market is going to go but teaching the fundamentals of investing in a manner that gives people short tasks to find specific information out using various techniques might help. |

Example: You could have a posting for the first day asking what the P/E ratio is. You could have a link to a site that will provide that information and the person could then respond via a poll to the question. You could then ask what the P/E ratio of XYZ company is and get them to post the response to the thread.
It would allow for people to build up some knowledge in not too difficult a situation and certainly in a less intimidating situation, allows them to make some E$ for the posts and you might see an increase in the 4.5% of members who make posts.
Sorry for the long rambling but after an hour of surfing the postings I personally did not feel like jumping in on the conversations as my knowledge is quite limited.
Cheers,
From the great white north! |

Thanks a lot for your comments Domgen, it's true we have a lot more members than posters. Getting everyone involved will be a constant struggle.
I really like your idea on expanding the beginners info. I bet it we make a poll we'd find that 50% or more members here have never made a real trade. The better we do at teaching our new members the more active they'll be.
Thanks again. |
