So here is a list of stock games we've played (or games we could play).

Anyone have any ideas for a fun game to get people involved?

Watch the Market
Pick if the DOW/NASDAQ will go up or down

Hot Potato
Pick a stock that'll do down the most the next trading day

Mashed Potato
Pick a stock that will go up the most the next trading day

Pop Finance Quiz
Find the answer to a pop quiz and be the first to answer

Here's a suggestion:

Pick two stocks, measure the % difference the next day. I don't know the real world usefulness of it, but it is one more way to play.

For example if A goes up 1% and B goes up 5%, your score would be 4%.

It would be a cross between the potato games, ideally you'd want to pick the biggest winner and the biggest loser for the highest score.

and another suggestion:

Put restrictions on the stocks they pick for the previous games. For example, only stocks that start with a certain letter, are in a price range, or trade a certain number of shares a day.

i like going thru the work of having to pick a stock that meets certain requirements.

i cant really come up with a game, but it helps me to learn when i have certain requirements that need to be met. kinda like grim's weekly challenge of having to pick stocks under 2.00. I think a game like that where we had to pick a stock maybe beteen a certain range...for example $2-10 with a p/e between say 5-15, maybe volume requrement within a certain range and see who gets the best return in a week...or something like that Very Happy

Why not try to get people to "broaden their investment horizons" by adding qualifiers to stock picks? I would try to avoid any time frame less than a week, and thats being generous and sympathetic toward the day trading contingent here. Why not do something like pick the (mid-cap/tech/P-E under 15) to go up the most in X amount of time? You can throw in market caps (not stock prices!), sectors, etc and see how things go. As it is, I think the simulator is more than enough to keep me occupied, but other people feel differently and might enjoy it.

I like e$ too (who doesn't?); I advise playing poker if you need some quick cash, even I can win. While the payoff might not seem to be huge, you can easily get several hundred e$ if you hit a hot streak. I still prefer posting though.

Speaking of posting for e$. Why do we not get any more money after we post 20 posts in a 24 hour period?

I already PMed Ben about that, but I don't think too many people should yell at him or he might smite us.

You've heard about fantasy football, baseball, etc. How about a fantasy trading game? Someone would have to take the facilitator role.

1. Each participate picks one stock
2. The facilitator documents the value of each stock on the first day and last day of the game
3. All members are emailed a list of the stocks picked and by who
4. At the end of a quarter, the person whose stock with the highest gain receives e$ (or not)

Needed: facilitator, process to sign-up, start/end dates, agreement to participate and share emails

This would increase participates knowledge of various stocks and performances. What do you think?

Hey Ben, why not add more educational value to the site by letting individuals pick a stock for all to watch and give a through explanation as to why the think it will perform. That way each of us use different methods for picking stocks be it technical, fundamental or whatever and we could all benefit from each other.

You could have the members vote on which stock picker gave the best or most informative explanation.

Just some thoughts.
