Welcome to the HYIP experiment!

Carrying on with an earlier posting, I decided I would test out a few online investment programs with small sums of money to see how they stacked up.
The experiment started on February 14 on these boards.
The experiment ended in all intensive purposes on March 23.

Is it possible to make money from HYIPs? Yes it is possible, though that doesn't mean we should lump HYIPs with regular investing options. HYIPs carry a lot of risk, and while the potential for earning is there, you must always be aware of the downside that also exists.
Some individuals I've spoken with since I first got involved with this online HYIP world a short month ago have managed to time their entry and exit from programs well enough that they have reaped the full benefits of the HYIPs. The more usual scenario? There are small gains matched by losses in another opportunity. Whenever someone wins, someone else loses out, and HYIPs begin to infringe on the domain normally held for gambling and chance.

HYIPs work, but they appear to be largely based on a ponzi scheme which means that they may not work for the long term. If they pay today, it doesn't mean that they will pay tomorrow.
I will be continuing to monitor the programs I am involved in, but I feel that the usefullness of this thread/discussion is most felt in a conclusive statement rather then an ongoing assessment.
HYIPs may present an opportunity for an alternative source of income, but they should not be relied upon or looked at as a casual investing endeavour.

For reference, I am personally involved in:
-StudioTraffic (Program crashing - 200%+ gained to-date)
-Prime-Fund (Program disappeared - gained ~200% before close)
-SyncInvest (Program disappeared - gained ~130% before close)
-JohnsonHYIP (Program disappeared - I lost ~$10 before close)
-FutureMillions (Program disappeared - no loss)
The bracketed information above was updated on Nov. 16/'05 to reflect the current health of the programs. Of the five, only studiotraffic is still in existence.

I'm definitely willing to answer any questions you may have about HYIPs, and I will make the odd major update about my experiences.

Hey again InvestingMac,

here is just a small question for you! If you had to single out one of them which is the best, what will you chose? I head that they all are quite good but is there like a clear cut best?

Thank you

Hi nemesis.

That can be a tricky question. Each program posted above has their pros and their cons, and it comes down to which one is more suited to your interests. I personally advise against using a single program, but starting with one can be a helpful experience.

Some points to help you decide:
-StudioTraffic starts you with $10. You have no initial risk, but have to surf to earn the 1%.
-JohnsonHYIP allows you to withdraw at anytime (set 15% penalty), which is a major bonus. You earn 1.7% a day, and the website design is basic and straightforward.
-PrimeFund is fully automated, and can make daily interest payments to your e-gold if you so choose (I have chosen this and it has worked well so far). You can withdraw your principal investment at any time, but the earlier you do, the larger the penalty. Earns between 1%-3.5%.

SyncInvest, and FutureMillions are also there to consider, but I think the ones above are better for people who are interested in starting small. Being able to withdraw at anytime, or not having to put in money to start is a major bonus for a new user.

Hope that answers your question and sets you on the right track. Always work only with what you're comfortable with.

Hey InvestinMac,

After all the updates, would you say it is worth it to go into investing or rather give it a shot with money doublers?

HYIPs are risky, but I would say Money Doublers can be even riskier. Many of them advertise for "pre-launch" (which is really the only time you want to join) but then never open. The ones that do open will cycle for a short period of time, but will most likely die out as soon as the early members begin withdrawing their doubled money. A "proven" money doubler is an oxymoron in my opinion.

If you have decided you truly do want to try your hand at these online money schemes, and accept the risk involved, then I would select a few HYIPs that appear to have good future potential. If you want to talk about the various programs, feel free to private message me on this board.

Oh I completely agree. I definitely do not view HYIPs as a legitimate, or recommended method of "investing".
It's best if you view it as a game (such as a lottery or a casino). You win some and you lose some, but you aren't betting your life savings either way.
