Hello All,

I am currently in college in Mid TN and in the Teacher Education Program studying math and sceince. I am currently working on a project for one of my courses. What I am wanting to do is use a current intrest of mine, the stock market, to use in the classroom. I need ideas to use math and the stock market. What I forgot to say is I am studying to teach middle school. Thanks for your time.

I always enjoyed having stock market challenges when I was younger.

If I recall, math in middle school goes over percentages, fractions, and mathematic models and trends. Having the students calculating changes in their porfolio over set periods of time may be an option.
Average increase/decrease over week, month, year, etc.
There is plenty of math in the stock market, so it comes down to what the course curriculum demands and fitting it to a stock situation.

Adding an element of compeitition should boost the student's interest levels in the project an infinite amount. Very Happy

This is a cool idea. You could set it up as a contest. The kids could track stocks they have picked and the one who has went up the most % is the winner. Give them extra credit for being the winner.

You could probably pull something like that off, although I would stick to % change, $ change, and the like. Derivative-based trend modeling might be a little too advanced for pre-teens Very Happy .
