I am a stock investing newbie just trying to improve the return of my retirement savings.
About 2/3rds of my money is in a 401k, but 1/3rd has been in fixed interest IRA's for too long (some at 4.5% fixed since 1983 and some in CD's that have decreased over time from 10% to 4.55% currently). Maybe that saved me from the post 2000 tech crash and 9/11, but I would like to make that 1/3rd along with Roth IRA contributions grow to equal the 2/3rds 401k and its contributions over the next 12-13yrs and into retirement. My 401k did 15.25% 2004 and 9.64% YTD 9/30/05 (just over 9% 10/4).
I am dipping my toe into the markets with a portion of IRA money and Roth contribution this year before deciding whether to dive in when a larger IRA CD expires next year. Overall, my 2 mutual funds and 4 stocks invested Aug. 2005 slipped 9%, but currently show a profit. One mutual fund is still down, but I cannot do anything about that without a penalty. I dumped the one losing stock 10/3 when it had recovered from 18% down, but hit resistance still 5% down. I split that into 2 stocks which both gained 10/4 (while the one I sold slipped 3.35%). So I am studying hard and learning fast.
I think I stumbled on this site doing a Google search for "stock investing forum". |
