What i did when I started was buy stocks that I was interested in, for me it was Disney and each year I had a little more to my portfolio.

Have you considered getting into the market through mutual funds rather than picking individual stocks?

If you are just starting off, I would recommend investing in solid stocks that may not go through the roof, but also you know will be steady and not go bankrupt.

I would consider buying a few cheap stocks so you learn how the market goes.

I would be interested in "dabbling" a bit with just a few stocks to get started. Can this be done on-line or do I have to "hire" a broker?

I am new to this also. What would be a good thing to start with, if you have little to invest? Any EASY to understand books on this subject to help me understand it a little better?

Everyone needs to Buy Missed Fortune 101 by Douglas R Andrew, before you invest anything. This is the best book I have ever read by far.

Everyday talk, examples and goals. A true step by step guide.

My husband has annuity for about $1700 from his last employeer. We are not contributing anymore. I am uncertain as to whether I should have that closed out and invest with someone like Edward Jones, etc or leave it alone. It's certainly doesn't seem to be doing much where it is. I have no CLUE as to how to get started doing any financial investing/stock market, etc alone. Help!!

Dear Cris,
I do not mean to sound like a broken record, but if you really have no clue what to do with your money, I strongly urge you to by a book called Missed Fortune 101 by Douglas R Andrew. Available online at www.walmart.com for less than $20. It is by far the best book you will ever read as it pertains to money. It is an easy read with real life examples and everyday solutions.

After you read it get back up on this board and shoot me some questions. You may not have any! If you don t come on back and let me know what you came away with.

In the mean time I would pay off any bills you have had hanging around for a while. After that go to your bank and put the rest in a moneymarket.
After you read Missed Fortune 101 you will have a better understanding on how to handel money for the long haul.

Best of Luck!

I heard ltwo years ago that Disney's stock was doing terrible. I have never bought stock before and I kept saying I was going to get in on Disney while it was rock bottom. I never did. I wish I did. How is it doing now? Is it at a high or low right now? I still would love to do it. This is a company that I certainly love.
